Sooo…how was your Valentine’s Day? Mine wasn’t romantic, but it was fun!
I spent the evening with my 80-year-old parents. We drank a little red wine and watched Fawlty Towers episodes! No one in my book is funnier than John Cleese. We laughed until we cried! This is a Valentine’s evening I will never forget!
I know not everyone is spending time laughing these days. This past week I spoke with many people who are struggling in various areas of their lives. Some with real life struggles and others with just wanting more in their lives. Believe me, I’m no stranger to either area. About 8 years ago I decided to stop struggling. I made a vow to do whatever I needed to do to create a life I love.
In 2007 when the economy tanked I hit rock bottom. I lost a “sh*t load” of money in an investment my husband and I had gotten into before our divorce. This was a devastating loss to us both, but he was able to recover easily as a doctor. I, on the other hand, was not.
So I spent most of that year contemplating my future. I didn’t want to see anybody because I felt like such a fool. My mind wouldn’t stop racing with the “what now” reel. I felt paralyzed.
Thankfully during that time I picked up Eckhart Toelle’s book, A New Earth. I read his book 7 times…in a row! This book was a life saver for me. Understanding the ego helped me “get out of my monkey mind” and begin the voyage into truly living authentically.
Before the loss having money was comforting, but money itself did not make me happy. I know that sounds so freakin’ cliche’, but it’s true. I was in an unhealthy relationship, my life felt empty, and I had no direction. I hung out with people who had time on their hands. Nothing felt inspiring, other than what we thought was terrific dialogue after drinking a lot of wine.
Having to do something saved me from this unhappy life. I got pro-active, because I wanted to stay in my home. I put my house on VRBO and started doing vacation rentals. Then I decided to find work that I was truly passionate about.
Here’s the deal: I would take Nothin’ for my journey now! (a little Maya Angelou…love her!)
If you are unsure of where you’re headed take action now. Don’t spend years living complacent or unhappy when you could be thriving! For inspiration I recommend that you read T.D. Jakes’ book Instinct: The Power to Unleash Your Inborn Drive.
From my experience personal breakthroughs happen when you’re sick and tired of the state you’re in. Are you ready for your next big thing? Want to talk about it?
